It has been a busy time for the Hawthorne Caballeros.
1/22 Brass Recap
It was good to be around the horn line after being unable to attend the last couple of rehearsals. Upon walking in I got to listen to the 2017 show music (more details on this later on), you can feel the excitement of the horn line. Not only that, the design team and caption heads are fully invested in the new direction of Drum Corps Associates. The Caballeros known for powerful brass lines added in two new dimensions into their brass program, French horns and trombones. Some may be wary of this move, but when applying the instrumentation to this year’s show concept, it will put a smile on your face!
The horn line is still looking to fill out the remaining spots. For full details on how to become a member, please contact Membership Manager, Mike Ryan (firstname.lastname@example.org).
Pictures are forthcoming!
2017 Music Selection
The Hawthorne Caballeros are proud to present their musical selections for 2017.
The Caballeros have often been on the forefront of innovative and modern show designs while maintaining their signature Latin identity. This year’s show will be memorable and exciting as the program opens with H. Owen Reed’s “La Fiesta Mexicana”, a staple of concert band literature. The show will weave into the strands of “La Fiesta Mexicana” and the Led Zeppelin classic, “Stairway to Heaven”, throughout the entire program. Front Ensemble arranger, Tyler Sammons, will be using the Rodrigo y Gabriella version to accentuate the musicality of our keyboard players, also a trademark of the Caballeros musical ensemble in recent years. Percussion arranger, Paul Nalesnik, will explore new musical territory with the multicultural modern band Ojos de Brujo and their hit song “Zambra”, off of their album “Bari”. “Zambra”, combined with Paul’s arrangement, feels like it was tailored for the Cabs to bring “it” to the competition field. Closing out the show will be the familiar themes of Chick Corea’s “La Fiesta” combined with brass arranger, Dr. Andy Yozviak’s modern twist on this old drum corps classic will surely get the audience out of their seat.
